You may have seen him in the recent Pen High grad parade down Main Street, as new grad Cameron Joostema joins our team for the summer. Or you may see him in the kitchen...he's kind of shy, and as Chef Paul says, "He's doing great, but we need to get him to talk more!".
Cameron has spent most of his life in Penticton, and loves it here. "My family is here, everyone here is happy, and everyone at BRODO is supportive and helping me learn," he says.
He completed his last year of high school via Thomspon Rivers University in Kamloops, in the culinary arts program, where he had one-on-one training and found it easy to learn by example. Eventually, he may further his education with some business courses in the hopes of one day opening his own restaurant. And, his heritage is inspiring him to learn more about Dutch cuisine.
Meanwhile, his favourite dish to prepare at BRODO is the meatball sandwich, added to the menu this spring, because even though it can be messy, "it's fun". At home, his favourite dish is risotto...if you ask him what his favourite ingredient is, the answer is rice, for its versatility and because "it can go with everything."
The next time you're in for lunch or dinner, say hello to Cameron!
